Summer 2023



The Annapolis Junior Rowing Association (AJR) Summer 2023 Training sessions are open to all male and female athletes in the 8th through 12th grade with prior rowing experience. AJR’s focus is sweep rowing, primarily in 4+s and 8+s. Practices will consist of workouts on the water, erg training, and land workouts (conditioning).  Athletes will build strength and endurance while learning technique, teamwork and personal responsibility.

When and Where: AJR will host two two-week Summer Training Sessions: (i) July 3 – July 14, 2023; and (ii) July 24 – August 4, 2023.  Practices will be Monday – Friday mornings at Camp Woodlands (2744 Riva Road, Annapolis, MD). Rowers can choose between the 6-8 AM or 8-10 AM times.  These sessions offer the opportunity for experienced rowers to stay active in the sport. Rowers that may miss days during their two-week session can make up days in other sessions.

The Summer 2023 Training Fee is $400. Register via email to annapolisjuniorrowing1@gmail.com. Payment and other details will be provided in response.

**NEW** Competitive Summer Program

This year we are offering a competitive sculling season slated to run June 19 to August 4 (or 13th) from 5:45 AM – 8 AM. A select number of scullers will train and compete in the Summer National Championships in Ohio and maybe the Canadian Henley.  This will be offered to a small group of rowers that will need to apply and meet certain criteria as set by the coaching staff. All participants will compete in the 2023 USRowing Summer National Championships (July 13-16, 2023 in Bethel, OH) and may also compete in the Canadian Henley.

When and Where: June 19 – August 4 (or 13), 2023.  Practices will be Monday – Friday mornings from 5:45am to 8:00am at Camp Woodlands (2744 Riva Road, Annapolis, MD).

The Competitive Summer Program Fee is $1500 and includes racing and fees associated with club nationals. The application starts with an email expressing interest in this competitive sculling offering to annapolisjuniorrowing1@gmail.com. Payment and other details will be provided upon selection.

Summer 2023 Learn-to-Row Sessions

    • AJR will host three one-week Learn-to-Row Sessions during the summer of 2023, which are available to athletes new to AJR and the sport of rowing, as follows:
        • June 26 – June 30, 2023;
        • July 17 – July 21, 2023; and
        • August 7 – August 11, 2023.
    • Each Learn-to-Row Session will be held at Camp Woodlands (2744 Riva Road, Annapolis, MD 21401) from 9:00am – 12:00pm.
    • Learn-to-Row fee is $500.
